Welcome to Northstar Kids!
We are glad you’re here and interested in the work God is doing in the lives of our kids! Below you’ll find some information that may help you as you learn about the Children’s Ministry here at Northstar Church of God.
We know that children’s spiritual health and development is critical for the Kingdom of God. As parents, we are commanded by God to train up our children in the way they should go so that when they are old, they will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6). By providing quality, Bible-based instruction, fostering their spiritual growth in small groups, and encouraging positive fellowship, we at Northstar Kids are committed helping you do just that! We want kids to know that church is not only super fun, but that what they learn about here is important— both for themselves and for anyone with whom they can share it. Our mission is to love, inspire, and disciple passionate Jesus-followers! If your kids have been attending, we sincerely thank you for trusting us with your kids each week, and hope you’ll invite any families you know who could benefit from our ministry. If you’re new to Northstar, read on to find out more about our ministry, reach out if you have further questions, and swing on by for a visit! We’d love to welcome you on any given Sunday!
Our growing children’s ministry meets downstairs at Northstar, and is separated into three age groups: Nursery, Preschool, and Elementary. We serve children ages 0-11 on Sundays and ask that those 12 and older attend service with their parents. However, we do have a Youth Group (ages 12-17) which meets in our newly renovated Youth Room at Northstar every Wednesday at 6pm. Students 5-11 are in the same class with instruction differentiated in small groups so that multiple levels of students can successfully grasp the Biblical concepts taught. As we grow and attract more volunteers, we will be able to expand into more age levels, but for now, our arrangement offers a unique experience for children of many ages to learn and grow together.
Nursery & Preschool (Infants-4 years)-
We check in kids younger than 5 inside the Nursery/Preschool area for added security. Our youngest students play and learn together with trusted, trained, and background checked volunteers. Nursery volunteers keep your child safe, clean, and entertained while you attend service upstairs in peace. Preschool volunteers teach lessons based on the Crosstown series of our curriculum (linked below) and help your youngsters with a snack, memory verse, and usually a craft/art project. The preschool students get plenty of time to play and make friends, and are ready for pick-up right after service.
Elementary (5 - 11 years)-
Students ages 5-11 check in downstairs before church and spend a few minutes connecting with others. When it’s time to get started, the kids meet in small groups with a leader who welcomes and guides them in a discussion question. Kids’ Church lessons are based on the Konnect series which allows us to create a sort of hybrid instruction method. The video segments function the way a demonstrative skit would, and they help to engage students. In fact, some of the kids have grown quite attached to the characters at “Konnect HQ”! After the teaching segment of Konnect, students meet again in small groups for a snack, object lesson, discussion, and prayer. When small groups are done, we get together to worship. Finally, we talk about the ABCs of Salvation—Admit, Believe, & Confess— and end with games and fellowship.
We source our curriculum from a trusted online church organization called Life.Church. If you’d like, you can follow this link to explore the curriculum used for elementary (Konnect) and preschool (Crosstown) students: https://open.life.church/categories/314-kids.
Thank you for checking us out, and please feel free to email with any questions! We hope to see your family at Northstar this Sunday!

Northstar Church of God
Greetings, Northstar Family! Allie Rayment here with some updates and announcements about Children's Ministry. Our Children’s Ministry is up and running, and I am excited to update you on our check-in system, share what our Kids Church services are like, and extend to you an invitation that we hope you’ll pass along!
First off, a huge THANK YOU! We appreciate you bringing your children to Kids’ Church at Northstar! We know that children’s spiritual health and development is critical for the Kingdom of God. As parents, we are commanded by God to train up our children in the way they should go so that when they are old, they will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6). By providing quality, Bible-based instruction, fostering their spiritual growth in Small Groups, and encouraging positive fellowship, we at Northstar Kids are committed to helping you do just that! We want kids to know that church is not only super fun, but that what they learn about is important— both for themselves and for anyone with whom they can share it. Our mission is to love, inspire, and disciple passionate Jesus-followers! We sincerely thank you for trusting us with your kids each week, and hope you’ll invite any families you know who could benefit from our ministry.
Next, I’d like to share with you an update to our check-in system. You’ve been so patient with us as we have figured some things out. From now on, for better security, and so that the kids can have an entire service tailor-made for them, we are checking in downstairs starting at 10:20. Children under 5 are checked in inside the Nursery door, for an added layer of security for our littlest clientele. Here they will enter for Nursery or Pre-School, which are adjoined rooms. Children ages 5-12 will check in at the landing at the bottom of the stairs where they will grab their name tags and be greeted by a volunteer! Speaking of which… we need volunteers to greet children as they are signed in and supervise as they are signed out! This would be just ten minutes before and after service to add much-needed security and personal connection with our Northstar kids and families. We are still going with the badge system for security, but will ask that only parents or adult siblings are signing children out. If you’d like to get on the schedule for greeting families as they sign in, please let me know which dates would work for you.
WHAT WE DO ON SUNDAYS
Moving on from the administrative changes, I’m sure you would like to know what we’re actually teaching! I'm glad to say that we’ve adopted a curriculum from an organization called Life.Church. Our latest series has been about how God wants us to deal with different kinds of fears. Next, we’ll start our Countdown unit which prepares us for celebrating a Christ-Centered Easter. Online, you can follow this link to explore the curriculum: https://open.life.church/categories/303-elementary.
Speaking of Easter, April is just around the corner. Easter Sunday is coming, and Northstar Kids has big plans for celebrating our Risen Lord! We will be having a special kids service focused especially on Easter, so tell your kids to invite their friends! Apologizing in advance, we will probably pump your kids full of candy before we send them home with you. (Just kidding, but seriously, we have a ton of candy for them!) The children and their families are also invited to an Easter Egg Hunt after service.
Phew! That was a lot of information. Here’s a quick recap:
1- THANK YOU for bringing us your children and working with us to love, inspire, and disciple passionate Jesus-followers!
2- Check-in is now downstairs starting at 10:20, and for kids under five is inside the nursery. We need a friendly face greeting families as they sign in, too, so get in touch with me if you can spend 10 or 15 minutes checking kids in.
3- We have adopted an awesome curriculum that you are encouraged to go online and explore.
4- Invite your friends to Easter Service and a Kids’ Easter Egg Hunt on Easter Sunday, April 4.
Thank you for reading! I'm truly thrilled to see Northstar growing and reaching so many children and families. Praise be to God as we look forward to seeing you at Northstar this Sunday!
