Where do I fit in?

At Northstar, we believe everyone needs to find a place to fit in and serve.  One of the benefits of coming to a more modest size church is that there are lots of places where we need you.  Each of us has been created by God with strengths, talents, and abilities.  

When people find their place to fit in, they find a greater sense of purpose and belonging.  That's why it's so important that you find your place and we want to help.  There are so many ways to connect and serve at Northstar.  Here are some of those ways:

Hospitality

This is a perfect way to get your feet wet without having to make a large commitment right out of the gate.  But what exactly is hospitality and what skills do you need?

Hospitality is the front line ministry where we connect with guests on Sundays.  The purpose of Hospitality is to make people feel welcome and cared for.  These areas include:

• Greeting (Front Door)
• Greeting (Sanctuary Entrance)
• Greeting (Floater)
• Coffee Counter

Approximate Weekly Commitment: 2-3 Hours

Prayer

Without prayer we are powerless.  Sundays at 10, a prayer group meets in the prayer room downstairs to pray for our church.  We'd love to have you come pray with us.

Food Ministry

Our Food Ministry is called The King's Storehouse.  Every 1st and 3rd Saturday from 9-noon, we are open for a community food bank.  Volunteers help with setup, serving the guests, and putting it all away.  We really need help setting up on the Friday evening prior to the Saturdays we're open.  If you are able to volunteer, please see Gretchen Ouweleen or inquire at the coffee counter.

Approximate Weekly Commitment: 2 Hours

Worship

Do you play an instrument or sing?  We are hoping to expand our team and if you have musical abilities, please let us know.  Rehearsals are every Thursday evening and the team shows up early on Sundays. 

Approximate Weekly Commitment: 3.5 Hours plus personal practice time.

Tech Team

We are always in need of anyone who likes to work with technology.  We will train you.  This includes the Sunday video presentation, video streaming, sound, lights, website, and the various computer technologies around the church.

Approximate Weekly Commitment: 2-4 Hours

Grounds

We are really shorthanded in this area.  We need you to come help keep our grounds looking good.  This includes weeding, mowing, and blowing the lot on Saturdays or Sundays before church.

Maintenance

Do things that are in disrepair catch your eye?  Do things which look broken or poorly done bug you?  Then you might just fit the bill.  Every church needs volunteers who fix the stuff that gets broken.  We have repairs that need to be done in the parking lot, to the building (inside & out) as well as regular building maintenance items.  This is a great way to volunteer on Saturdays or your off time.  This is especially good for someone who is retired and has extra time on their hands.  Nothing turns off visitors like a bad first impression.  So though it may not sound like it at first, this is important ministry!

Security 

We wish we never had to concern ourselves with security, but it's a sign of the times.  Security volunteers often double in hospitality positions.  This includes both armed and unarmed security personnel.  So if that's in your wheelhouse, we would love to plug you in.  These positions do require some training which we will provide.

Events

Do you like planning events?  This can be a great way to try out serving without making long term commitments.  So if you want to give it a try, there are several annual events we need help planning such as major holidays, Mother's Day, Father's Day, etc.  

Commitment varies.

KIDS

We take safety really seriously, so kids ministry require training and background checks.

Kids Church

Kids ministry needs both Kid's Church teachers and helpers.  Teachers work from pre-planned materials.  Helpers assist the teachers.

Pre-School and Nursery

In addition to Kids Church, we have volunteers who teach the pre-school kids and volunteers who serve in the nursery.  We try to include an additional floater to help wherever needed in these two rooms.  We are shorthanded in this area in particular.
